The Jammu Kashmir elections 2024 marked a significant departure from militancy and separatism as former militants, separatist leaders and members of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami outfit contested the elections. Five former militants, four separatist leaders and ten candidates from the banned Jamaat-e-Islami outfit were in the poll fray this year.
Usman Majeed (Bandipora), Gulzar Ahmad Dar (Damhal Hanji Pora), Saif-ud-din Bhat (Khansahib), Mohammad Farooq Khan, Sheikh Fida Hussain (Devsar), Mohammad Ashraf Hajam, and Engineer Rashid’s Awami Ittehad Party are contesting the elections.
