Kamya Punjabi is back in the headlines. This time, for her views on the portrayal of women in television dramas. Speaking particularly on the perception that women are sometimes depicted as weak individuals in the shows, Kamya shared that she has contrasting views on the same. The television actress believes that the stories of the show mostly revolve around women, showcasing their strengths. She added that TV depicts the females as fighters, capable of dealing with every kind of problem.
Speaking with ETimes recently, Kamya Punjabi said, “If you look closely at the characters, you’ll see that they are portrayed as fighters, no matter the situation. Whether they are standing up for their husband, supporting their parents, or protecting their family, they are never weak.”
Backing her claims, Kamya Punjabi added, “For instance, we’ve seen stories where a daughter takes on the responsibility of running the household, working a job, and even choosing to remain unmarried for the sake of her family. Isn’t that a sign of strength? Similarly, in shows where a daughter-in-law is mistreated by her mother-in-law, yet continues to fight for her family and work on building relationships, where is the weakness in that?”
For the former Bigg Boss contestant, “Weakness is just a matter of perception, not the reality of their portrayal.”
Work-wise, Kamya Panjabi is currently winning hearts with her role of Mohini in Ishq Jabariya. The show, starring Lakshay Khurana and Siddhi Sharma in the lead, follows the heartwarming journey of Gulki who aims to achieve big but faces unexpected challenges, thrown by people around her. In the show, Kamya portrays Aditya’s (played by Lakshya) aunt.
Earlier, Kamya Punjabi also shared her opinions on taking shortcuts for success in the entertainment industry. “I don’t compromise or take shortcuts, and I strive to bring something fresh and out of the box to every character I play,” she said during the interaction with ETimes.
Advising aspiring actors, Kamya remarked that the only way to bag the opportunities is to be able to deliver what is required for a role.
FYI, Kamya Punjabi has played pivotal roles in several hit shows like Shakti: Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki, Sanjog and Doli Armaano Ki. She also appeared in Bigg Boss 7.
