Kerala Youth Swallows Drug Packets To Evade Police — Here’s What Happened Next


A 28-year-old man from Thamarassery died after swallowing packets of synthetic drugs to evade police detection. The deceased, identified as Iyyadan Shanid, a resident of Karimpalakkunnu near Maikkavu, succumbed to his condition while undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital on Saturday (March 8, 2025).

Attempt To Escape 

The incident occurred on Friday (March 7, 2025) when Shanid was apprehended by the police on suspicion of carrying MDMA for local distribution. Upon spotting the law enforcement squad, he allegedly swallowed two zip-lock packets filled with synthetic drugs and attempted to flee, reported PTI.

Soon after, Shanid began experiencing severe discomfort and was taken into custody. Realising his critical condition, police rushed him to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital for emergency medical intervention.

Upon arrival at the hospital, doctors conducted a CT scan and endoscopy, confirming the presence of two plastic packets containing white granules in Shanid’s stomach, as per a report on Manorama. Despite intensive medical efforts, he succumbed to his condition at 11:20 am on Saturday.

Hospital authorities have stated that the exact cause of death will be determined following a postmortem examination.

Shanid had a history of drug-related offenses with multiple cases registered against him at Thamarassery and Kodencherry police stations. Following his death, the police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
