Kiku Sharda, known for his iconic characters like Bachcha Yadav and Palak, shot to fame with his appearance in The Kapil Sharma Show and Comedy Nights with Kapil. He has now moved into the spotlight as an advocate for body positivity on the new TV show Meri Bhavya Life. Recently, during an interview, the actor opened up about facing fat-shaming, saying that humour, heart and confidence aren’t measured on a weighing scale.

Speaking to ETimesTV, he shared, “Meri Bhavya Life is leading the example in addressing established misconceptions about size, appearance, and worth. For a long time, I was the ‘funny overweight guy’, and that title seemed like my identity. People adored me, but only with an asterisk. ‘He’s gifted; yet, he should reduce weight.’”

“I eventually realised that laughter and confidence do not come in sizes. When you’re a plus-size person, you have a lot to prove in the entertainment industry, which encourages weight loss. While that comment was not hurtful, it made me more conscious of society’s limiting perspective on persons my size. Then began the trolling, taunting, memes, and unsolicited advice on social media. I had to learn how to laugh with the world and not let it laugh at me,” he added.

Furthermore, the Race actor shared that he hopes Meri Bhavya Life would be able to change the perspective around oversized people. “I hope that this show helps people know that self-worth is not measured in kilograms. It’s about what you bring to the table, your personality, your heart, and your drive. I’m thrilled to be collaborating with a show that isn’t aiming to ‘fix’ plus-size people, but rather seeks to positively shift the perception that fat equals failure. “That is a story worth telling,” he said.

The show follows Bhavya (played by Prisha Dhatwalia), a skilled but plus-sized architect who is judged on her appearance rather than her ability. The story focuses on her journey to restore her self-worth and overcome societal pressures.

Apart from Prisha, the show also features Karan Vohra in the lead role.

Coming back to Kiku, he will soon be seen in the new season of The Great Indian Kapil Show, which will stream on Netflix.
