The West Bengal Government has launched a new digital bus ticketing service through the ‘Yatri Sathi App’, developed by the IT&E Department.
This new feature is currently available on 12 trial routes connecting the airport but will soon cover the entire WBTC bus network in Kolkata. With this move, passengers can now book bus tickets effortlessly and go cashless, making daily travel smoother and more efficient.
How It Works?
The digital ticketing system on the Yatri Sathi App allows commuters to select their route or destination and pay online, removing the need for cash. This not only makes payments easier but also helps reduce crowding on buses.
Shri Snehasis Chakraborty, Minister of Transport, highlighted the significance of this initiative, saying, “The introduction of digital ticketing through Yatri Sathi is a game-changer for public transport in Kolkata.”
Dr. Saumitra Mohan, Secretary of the Transport Department, added, “As we expand this feature across all WBTC routes, we are making daily commuting not only easier, but also safer and more efficient for millions of passengers.”
Yatri Sathi: Growing Impact
Since its launch, the Yatri Sathi App has connected over 70,000 drivers and served 2.7 million users with more than 6 million trips. It initially gained popularity by offering zero-commission cab rides, empowering drivers and providing affordable options for passengers. Now, with bus ticketing, the app is extending its reach to public transport, improving the travel experience for thousands of commuters in Kolkata.
The service will soon expand to other cities in West Bengal, including Siliguri, Durgapur, and Asansol, ensuring that even more citizens can benefit from digital ticketing.
Furthermore, Yatri Sathi aims to add real-time bus tracking, journey planning, and multi-modal transport solutions, enhancing the commuter experience even further.
The ultimate goal is to transform Yatri Sathi into a user-friendly app that supports not just public transport but a variety of citizen services across West Bengal.
