Kruttika Desai, a TV actress known for her performances in shows like Uttaran and Laal Ishq, is set to make her television comeback after a hiatus of three years. She will be playing a significant role in the upcoming show Meri Bhavya Life. Co-starring Prisha Dhatiwal and Karan Vohra, the show will premiere on April 30 on Colors TV. Recently, during an interview, she talked about her new character saying, “It felt familiar in some ways.”
The actress will be seen portraying the role of Damyanti Thakur aka Bua Maa in the forthcoming show. Speaking about her character, Kruttika said, “After so many years in the industry, I’ve played plenty of powerful, complex women. So, taking on the character of Bua Maa felt familiar in some ways: the emotional depth, the silent control, the power to influence without saying much; it’s a world I’ve worked in before, and as an actor, it comes effortlessly to me today,” as quoted by ETimesTV.
Further, speaking about how this role is different from her other characters, she added, “What differentiates Damayanti is the sharpness in her stillness. We’ve all seen the kaleshi bua on television: the dramatic, loud, and intrusive relative. Bua Maa is not loud; rather, she is calculated, constrained, and far more dangerous because of it. She is not just causing chaos; she is also surviving in it, feeding off of it to remain relevant. That nuance distinguished her from everything I’d done before.”
“It didn’t require much thought—just a gentle, lived-in performance based on gut and experience. And portraying her got more special because it marks my return to the channel, which feels like home,” Kruttika concluded.
Talking about the show, Meri Bhavya Life follows the story of Bhavya (Prisha Dhatiwal), a plus-sized woman and accomplished architect, who challenges societal pressures and expectations around her body image. As she rebuilds her life with talent and perseverance, fate binds her to her polar opposite – Rishank (Karan Vohra), the poster boy for protein powders, gym routines, and self-obsession who refuses to look beyond the obvious.
