Himachal Pradesh witnessed unusual traffic snarls on Sunday evening as the festival of Bhai Dooj brought the festive Diwali season to a close. There was a massive gridlock in the major districts of the hill state, with commuters stuck in jam for hours, even for journeys that would usually only take a few minutes.

The traffic jam stretching 35km was reported across Himachal’s Kangra, Una, and Hamirpur districts, with the bright sun adding to the discomfort of those stuck in traffic.

In Kangra, vehicles were seen crawling for extended periods in several areas, including Kangra-Jamanabad Road, the bus stand at Mataur Chowk, Kachiari, and 53 Mile.

The police force deployed also faced difficulties in clearing the routes. In Hamirpur, drivers reported frustration as buses were delayed, and passengers were seen waiting at stations for long stretches with nowhere to sit.

The situation was worsened by vehicles parked haphazardly throughout various locations.

Congestion on the Dharamshala-Chandigarh road in Una persisted throughout the day, compounding the challenges for those trying to navigate the area.
