Amid the ongoing transition where every single manufacturer is running after electrification, the German player Mercedes-Benz is not behind. It has been following the trend from left, right and centre. The company did not even spare the iconic G-Class or G-Wagon, and turned it into a complete EV.
When the electrified avatar of G-Wagon was launched in the global market, it somehow grabbed a lot of attention, a big thanks to its identical look to the ICE sibling and bold stance. As time passed by, the company received a true reality check by not getting the response from the customers as it expected.
Here’s What Report Says
The clear proof can be seen in the devastating sales figures as it managed to sell only 1,450 units in the European market in April 2025. These figures are not even close as compared to the ICE version, and outsold the electric version seven-to-one.
Sales Figures
The reports also suggested that the model struggled in China and South Korea as well, with sales figures of 58 and 61 units, respectively. Despite having cutting-edge technology, four electric motors that allow the car to perform an impressive G-turn, the car seems to fail globally.
Not a Good Experiment?
It is safe to say that the target audience was not satisfied with the experiment and did not like the silent treatment in the bold SUV. They always wanted the G-Class with a brutal original roaring exhaust sound, using a robust 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine.
All About Electric G-Class
Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz G-Class Electric comes at the starting price of Rs almost 3 cr (ex-showroom) in India. It has been given a power of 116 kWh battery setup that generates a maximum power of 579 bhp and 1164 Nm of peak torque.
The model also gets a quad-motor setup (one motor for each wheel), which allows the customers to have a rooted driving expirence on any terrain. As far as the range is concerned, the customers can enjoy 473 km on a single charge, and it is capable of reaching 10-80% charging in just 30 minutes using a 200kW charger.
