In a move to offer a fast and seamless travel facility on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route, the government has created a semi-high-speed rail corridor. It has been reported that the project has reached to its final stage as 95 percent of the work is done so far.
Once fully completed, the corridor will allow trains like Rajdhani, Vande Bharat, and Shatabdi to run at an impressive speed of 160 kmph, and will cut down the travel time and always will reach the destination faster.
Top Speed
The authorities will soon test the train at 160 kmph. After getting satisfactory results, the passengers will be able to cut down the travel time on the route, and will save around 45 to 60 minutes going from Mumbai to Ahmedabad, which currently takes five and a half hours.
Work Done
The Western Railway said that important work, such as installing metal beam fencing, upgrading rail tracks, and ballast cushioning on a certain level, has been finalised. It says even the important engineering works are part is also completed, which includes strengthening and rehabilitation of 138 bridges, 120-plus bridge approaches, and straightening of 134 curvatures along the route.
Safety
The concerned authorities have also ordered to installation of safety barriers, preventing people and cattle from trespassing. Meanwhile, the rail corridor project is a part of Western Railway’s (WR) 92 priority projects. These projects are collectively worth Rs 9,862 crore, and the most expensive projects reportedly took a total investment of Rs 8,095 crore.
