New Scam Alert: Swiggy Delivery Agent Fakes Injury To Take Money From Consumers For Treatment

A new scam has surfaced, which is here to play with your emotions. Delivery executives of food delivery platforms are now playing the devil while using our emotional vulnerability. An X user named Ankur brought this to light.

Let us go over the scam to understand it better and prepare ourselves to be safe from this.

How Does The Scam Unfold?

Ankur posted, “On 20th Jan, I was scammed by a Swiggy delivery agent named “Rohit Saxena”, who misrepresented themselves & fraudulently took ₹10,000 via Paytm. “Rohit”, the delivery agent, told me he met with an accident while on duty (He seemed injured with legs bleeding). He reached out & requested financial assistance to cover some immediate expenses, specifically asking for a sum of 10,000 INR. Out of kindness and to support him, I decided to provide the requested amount. (As he said, @Swiggy insurance will come only after a week).”

In the same thread he continued to say, “He assured me that he would repay the amount by tomorrow. After helping him out, within an hour he called me to ask for more money stating the treatment cost is around 22,000/- INR. Then I reported this to @Swiggy that they should be helping him out instead of me. The name on the Paytm account used for the transaction was ‘Udit Kumar Singh’, which was given by ‘Rohit’. I made the transaction in this account at the time not paying attention to the name mismatch,  as it was an emergency situation.”

He continued to say, “Through my own research, I have found multiple reports of similar fraudulent incidents involving Swiggy agents, particularly in the Delhi NCR region. Several discussions on platforms like Reddit indicate that this is not an isolated case. Despite this, Swiggy appears to have taken no meaningful action to address or prevent such scams, which reflects a disturbing lack of accountability. No response from @Swiggy Support Emails and even @rohitisb didn’t bother to reply for this severe matter. I demand an immediate, detailed response from @Swiggy with clear steps on how they’ll resolve this. If I don’t receive a satisfactory resolution soon, I’ll have no choice but to escalate this through the proper consumer protection channels.”

He further said, “As per my online research, I am sharing the reddit threads with you of people who have suffered from the same scam. I noticed that these scams have been going on for more than a year by the same guy. I was also able to find the picture of the delivery agent on these threads and can confirm it is the same person who was my delivery agent  – “Rohit Saxena” and who SCAMMED me. Now that we have a clear identification of the scammer and additional proof that he has been working as an agent in @Swiggy for more than a year (or as per the comments in the reddit threads – he might be working more than 3 years). Please help me in understanding how @Swiggy hasn’t flagged this agent till now, and he has been scamming people still after multiple incidents. It shakes my trust, not only in individuals but in humanity itself – not helping anyone again.”

Towards the end, Swiggy commented, “We got what you conveyed. Apologies for the letdown. Could you please meet us on DM so that we can take this up further?”

Ankur concluded the thread by saying that he had DMed Swiggy.
