A significant development emerged regarding the Noida International Airport (NIA) under construction in Jewar, Greater Noida. In a gesture of respect and acknowledgment, the farmers who have contributed their land for the construction of the airport will be the first passengers on its inaugural flight. The Uttar Pradesh government confirmed this as part of a special plan to honour these farmers, whose land is crucial to the airport’s development.
The inaugural flight, set to take off once the airport becomes operational, will be a special IndiGo flight. The government selected this airline as a symbol of appreciation for the landowners. As a part of the launch ceremony, the first flight will include Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and several other VIPs, who will join the farmers on their maiden air journey from Noida to Lucknow.
In a further move to honour the contribution of the farmers, the second flight from the airport will be entirely dedicated to them. This flight, which will have a total of 210 seats, will prioritise those farmers who directly gave up their land for the airport’s construction. This gesture ensures that those who helped make the airport a reality will be among the first to experience air travel, making the event even more meaningful.
Noida International Airport: A Milestone for Aviation
The Noida International Airport, currently under construction, is slated to be one of the largest airports in Asia, with plans to become the fifth-largest airport globally once completed. Scheduled to begin full-scale operations in April 2025, the airport will mark a major milestone in the region’s infrastructure development.
From day one, 30 flights will operate out of the airport, including 25 domestic flights, 3 international flights, and 2 cargo flights. The international services will connect Noida to global hubs, with initial flights to Singapore and Dubai. These routes will be serviced in collaboration with international airlines Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines, both of which have already signed agreements with the airport.
Ahead of its grand opening, ticket bookings for flights from Noida International Airport are expected to begin 30 days before the commencement of operations. Travellers will be able to book tickets for both domestic and international flights starting at that time.
Key Dates and Airport Timeline
The Noida International Airport has made rapid progress since its inception. The foundation stone for the airport was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 26, 2021. Since then, a major portion of the construction work has been completed, with final touches being added to ensure the airport is ready for operations. When it opens, the Noida International Airport will serve as a critical hub for both domestic and international flights, contributing to the region’s economic growth and connectivity.
Once operational, the airport will be managed by the Noida International Airport Authority, which is overseeing the development of the site. Construction is progressing at full speed, with strict oversight from relevant authorities to ensure the airport meets both international standards and local expectations.
