The much-anticipated project, the Noida International Airport, said to be Asia’s largest, is finally ready to commence operations next year.
The Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) has announced the official date, stating that the airport will begin operating on April 17, 2025, with a total of 30 flights to various locations, as per reports.
The preparations are currently in the advanced stages. Situated in Uttar Pradesh’s GautamBuddha Nagar, the ambitious project is expected to connect major cities, including Agra and Mathura, to the world aviation network.
Currently, IndiGo and Akasa Air are said to be in talks with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) over domestic and international routes, as per the Financial Express.
It is worth mentioning that the airport was previously slated to open by the end of September 2024, but it was pushed to next year due to delays in the delivery of construction equipment and materials.
“This shift has taken place due to various reasons, including delays in delivery of construction materials and equipment due to COVID-19 restrictions and supply chain constraints due to geopolitical conflict,” Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL) told Business Standard.
More On The Noida Airport’s Operation Plans
Noida International Airport, also known as Jewar Airport, which will serve as the second airport in the Delhi-NCR region, plans to operate 65 daily flights, including 62 on domestic routes, two on international routes, and one cargo flight.
Upon inauguration, the selective 30 flights will also operate across domestic and international destinations. NIAL’s chief executive officer, Arun Vir Singh, shared that 25 of these flights will be domestic, while three will have international destinations and two planes will be cargo.
“The international flights will be for Zurich, Singapore, and Dubai, while domestic services will be for Lucknow, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Dehradun, Hubli, and others. The final schedule will be announced shortly,” he said, as quoted by HT.
With the foundation stone laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in November 2021, the proposed plan was to build a two-runway airport and later expand it into a 7,200-acre six-runway area.
YEIDA has also identified 13,000 acres for the project. Upon being completed, the airport is expected to support the movement of 12 million passengers, 1,00,000 flights, and 2,50,000 tonnes of cargo every year.
