Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara, Uri, and Akhnoor areas, prompting retaliation from the Indian Army, officials said on Saturday.
This is the ninth consecutive night of ceasefire violation by Pakistan along the LoC, amid heightened tensions between the two countries following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 people.
“During the night of 02-03 May 2025, the Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked small‑arms fire across the Line of Control opposite the Kupwara, Uri, and Akhnoor areas of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir,” the Indian Army statement noted.
The Indian Army responded “promptly and proportionately,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, civilians living along the LoC and the International Border (IB) began cleaning their community and individual bunkers to make them habitable in case of shelling.
Ceasefire Violation On May 1-2 Night Along LoC
On the night of May 1-2, Pakistani Army posts resorted to unprovoked small arms fire from posts across the LoC opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Naushera, and Akhnoor areas, leading to a ” calibrated and proportionate” response from the Indian Army.
Pakistan initially began with unprovoked small arms firing at various posts along the LoC in Kupwara and Baramulla districts of north Kashmir. Thereafter, it swiftly expanded its ceasefire violations to the Poonch sector, followed by the Akhnoor sector of the Jammu region.
Subsequently, Pakistani troops engaged in small arms firing at several posts along the LoC in the Sunderbani and Naushera sectors of Rajouri district. The firing then expanded to the Pargwal sector along the IB in Jammu district.
The ceasefire violations by Pakistan began just a few hours after India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty following terror attack in Pahalgam. Since the night of April 24, Pakistani troops have been resorting to unprovoked firing along the LoC in J&K, starting from the Kashmir Valley.
