Pakistani Troops Continue Ceasefire Violation Along LoC, Indian Army Responds ‘Proportionately’

The Pakistani Army continued its ceasefire violations for the eighth consecutive day across the Line of Control in various sectors of Jammu and Kashmir, despite warnings from India.

The small arms firing was reported across the LoC opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Akhnoor, and Naushera sectors on the intervening night of May 1 and 2. The Indian troops responded to the cross-border firing in a “calibrated and proportionate manner”.

“During the night of 01-02 May 2025, Pakistan Army posts resorted to unprovoked small arms firing from posts across the Line of Control opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Naushera, and Akhnoor areas of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. Indian Army troops responded in a calibrated and proportionate manner,” the Indian Army said in a statement.

India on Wednesday warned Pakistan against its unprovoked firings along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir amid escalating tensions over the Pahalgam terror attack. The directors general of military operations (DGMOs) of the two armies held the conversation on Tuesday to discuss the matter.

According to a report by PTI, the Indian DGMO strongly took up the matter of ceasefire violations by the Pakistan military, warning it against unorovoked incidents of firing along the LoC.

In the previous ceasefire violation, the Pakistani Army initiated firing across the Line of Control opposite Kupwara, Uri and Akhnoor in Jammu and Kashmir.

“During the night of 30 April-01 May 2025, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small-arms fire across the Line of Control opposite Kupwara, Uri and Akhnoor in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. These were responded to proportionately by the Indian Army,” the army said on Thursday.

The Indian and Pakistani armies announced on February 25, 2021 that they would cease firing across the LoC while recommitting themselves to a 2003 ceasefire agreement. The decision was taken in a significant move aimed at reducing tensions. The ceasefire agreement was broadly being adhered to till last week, when Pakistan began cross-firing following rising tensions over the Pahalgam terror attack.
