New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reflected on his formative years during the 1975 Emergency through a new book titled The Emergency Diaries – Years That Forged a Leader, launched by BlueKraft Digital Foundation. Taking to social media, the Prime Minister described the period as a “learning experience” and honoured former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda as a “stalwart of the anti-Emergency movement.”
The book, which highlights Modi’s early political journey as a young RSS Pracharak, explores his contributions to resisting the Emergency imposed by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The narrative draws heavily from first-hand accounts of those who worked with him at the time, and features rare archival materials to build what the publishers call a “first-of-its-kind” scholarly resource on Modi’s formative years. The foreword has been penned by Deve Gowda himself.

In a tweet reposting the announcement, PM Modi wrote: “When the Emergency was imposed, I was a young RSS Pracharak. The anti-Emergency movement was a learning experience for me. It reaffirmed the vitality of preserving our democratic framework. At the same time, I got to learn so much from people across the political spectrum. I am glad that BlueKraft Digital Foundation has compiled some of those experiences in the form of a book, whose foreword has been penned by Shri HD Deve Gowda Ji, himself a stalwart of the anti-Emergency movement.”
