Netflix seems to be on a mission to bring back classic Indian crime shows. After adding Sony TV’s legendary series CID to its library, the streaming giant is now gearing up to drop another fan-favourite – Crime Patrol. If reports are to be believed, Netflix has secured the rights to this long-running anthology series, known for its chilling recreations of real-life crimes. And the best part? Viewers won’t have to wait long. Crime Patrol is set to start streaming on the platform from March 17.
For years, Crime Patrol has been a mainstay on Indian television, outlasting many of its contemporaries in the crime-reenactment genre. The show first premiered on May 9, 2003 and quickly gained traction. Over time, it evolved, introducing multiple seasons that kept audiences hooked. However, the journey hasn’t always been smooth. After six seasons, the show faced a setback reportedly due to declining viewership. Its final episode aired on January 22, 2023, marking the end of that chapter.
But Crime Patrol wasn’t down for long. The seventh season returned on July 10, 2023, running until January 19, 2024. Through all its highs and lows, the show has managed to retain a fiercely loyal audience.
The face most associated with the show is, of course, Anup Soni. His commanding presence and measured storytelling have made him the voice of Crime Patrol for years. But he’s not the only one who has anchored the show. Over time, other notable figures, such as Diwakar Pundir, Shakti Anand and Sakshi Tanwar, have also taken up hosting duties.
Created by Subramanian S. Iyer for Sony Entertainment Television, Crime Patrol was initially produced by Cinevistaas Limited before Optimystix Entertainment took over. As the series prepares to make its way to Netflix, it remains committed to its core purpose – educating viewers about crime while shedding light on the complexities of criminal investigations.
