Pune Metro is all set to grow and make commuting easier, with new routes and upgrades in the works.

As per Pune Pulse, in a recent meeting with Pune Metro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar, key proposals for metro expansion and traffic management were discussed.

Pune’s Municipal Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale has been asked to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for these upcoming projects.

Kharadi to Pune International Airport Metro Route

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been tasked with preparing a DPR to extend the metro line from Kharadi to Pune International Airport. This new route will be integrated into the existing Khadakwasla–Swargate–Hadapsar–Kharadi metro corridor, providing a smooth connection from Khadakwasla to the airport.

Kharadi: A New Multimodal Transport Hub

Kharadi, a growing commercial and residential area, has been chosen to become an Interchangeable and Multimodal Transport Hub. This will connect several metro routes to the airport, offering more convenient travel options for passengers. The proposed routes include:

  • Chandani Chowk to Wagholi – Direct access to the airport from Kharadi
  • Nigdi to Swargate – Reach the airport from Swargate via Kharadi
  • Shivajinagar-Kharadi-Airport Corridor – Another possible route for airport access
  • Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar – Travel through Kharadi to the airport
  • Khadakwasla-Swargate-Hadapsar – Direct route to the airport

New Katraj to Hinjawadi Metro Route

With Pune’s population growing and traffic worsening, a new metro route from Katraj to Hinjawadi has been proposed. This extension will help manage urban expansion, improve public transport, and create a circular metro network linking Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Double-Decker Flyover to Ease Traffic at Chandani Chowk

To ease heavy traffic on the Vanaz to Chandani Chowk route, officials are considering a double-decker flyover. This project, inspired by the successful Nal Stop flyover, aims to reduce congestion and ensure smooth travel along the metro corridor.
