A detailed transport plan has been created for a 2,550-sq km area, covering Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority.

To ensure smooth travel to and from the proposed international airport at Purandar, a new railway line from Rajewadi station on the Satara route is in the works.
As per The Indian Express, this route is part of Pune’s broader mobility plan, aiming to improve transportation across the city and surrounding districts.
The plan covers an area of 2,550 square kilometres, including Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority. It will be rolled out in three phases, with an estimated budget of Rs 1.26 lakh crore.
Key features of the plan include expanding the metro network, enhancing the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited, increasing bus rapid transit (BRT) corridors, and improving railway services. Additionally, traffic upgrades are planned for areas like Pune, Shivajinagar, Chinchwad, and the Talegaon railway station.
The first phase of the plan connects Talegaon and Daund railway stations through an outer bypass. A feeder service from Talegaon to Shikrapur via Uruli Kanchan will be introduced, followed by a railway link from Shikrapur to Daund.
Two stations, Jejuri and Rajewadi, on the Satara route are close to the proposed airport. Rajewadi station is the nearest, making it an ideal starting point for a direct railway line to the airport.
The expansion of the Pune-Lonavala railway line will also improve traffic management. Furthermore, there’s a proposal to relocate the Fursungi passenger terminal on the Pune-Miraj route to Shindawane.
To further enhance access to the new airport, road upgrades are planned for several routes, including:
- Dive Ghat via Hadapsar-Saswad
- Saswad-Bopdev Road
- Uruli Kanchan-Jejuri Road
- Saswad-Kapurhol-Bhor Road
- Khed-Shivapur-Saswad Link Road
