Putin Aide Slams Russia-Ukraine Ceasefire:’ Nothing More Than Temporary Breather For Kyiv’

A top aide at the Kremlin on Thursday criticised the proposed ceasefire plan by the US for the Russia-Ukraine war as nothing but just a “breather” for the Ukrainian military.

“It would be nothing more than a temporary breather for the Ukrainian military,” Yuri Ushakov told state media after speaking by phone to US national security advisor Mike Waltz, reported AFP.

He further said President Vladimir Putin would “probably make more specific and substantive assessments” on Thursday.

Putin’s aide also said that Moscow was aiming for a “long-term peaceful solution” that would secure Russia’s “legitimate interests.”

“That is what we are striving for,” he said, adding, “Any steps that imitate peaceful action are I believe not needed by anyone in the current situation,” he said.

US Official Heading To Russia

On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump said that the US officials were heading to Russia to discuss a proposed ceasefire plan to pause the fighting for 30 days and a pathway to peace talks.

He said it was now upto Russia after Ukraine agreed to truce plan during more than eight hours of talks with US officials on Tuesday in Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin said it would review details from Washington about the proposed ceasefire plan before responding while US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expected a deal would be inked within days, reported Reuters.

The proposed ceasefire plan covers the suspension of fighting across the entire front line with Russia, not just the air and sea, as proposed by Ukraine.

While Russia considered the plan, President Vladimir Putin made a surprise visit to Russia’s Kursk region for the first time — dressed in military fatigues — since Ukrainian troops captured a part of it last year.
