Rahul Gandhi Meets Porters At New Delhi Railway Station: ‘Thanked Them For Saving Lives’


Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi met with porters at New Delhi Railway Station on Sunday where stampede broke out on February 15 that killed 18. 

“Often it is in the darkest times that the light of humanity shines the brightest,” said the Congress leader on X as he shared the photos of the meeting.

“During the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station, the Porter brothers set an example of humanity and saved the lives of many passengers. For this, I thanked them today on behalf of the countrymen,” he added. 

The Raebareli MP also emphasised the need to learn from such accidents and hoped that the government would take concrete steps for the safety of the passengers. 

“It is important to learn from such accidents. These can be prevented by crowd control, use of modern technology, better infrastructure and strengthening emergency systems,” he said. 

“It is hoped that the government will take concrete steps in this direction so that passengers of every class can travel safely,” Gandhi said further.

Porters Share Their Problem 

Porters expressed their happiness and said Rahul Gandhi was there for around 40 minutes and listened to their problems.

“We are happy that Rahul Gandhi came to meet us. He listened to all our problems, and we hope that he will solve them. He stayed here for about 40 minutes and listened to us,” porter Dipesh Meena told ANI after the meeting. 

The porters shared their problems with Gandhi that included Group D and medical facilities, said another porter. “Rahul Gandhi stayed here for 40 minutes. We told him all our demands including Group D, medical facilities. We are happy that he came here,” he said.
