Inspired by Greek mythology and the Northern Lights, the Boreal will debut in Brazil before heading to India in 2026.
While the Boreal will first roll out in Latin American markets, it is expected to arrive in India by 2026.
Renault has revealed the name of its much-anticipated 7-seater SUV, which will be called the Boreal.
The new model is set to make its debut in the coming months, first launching in Latin America, with plans to roll out in over 70 countries outside Europe, as per Team Bhp.
It is expected to arrive in India by 2026.
Why the Name “Boreal”?
The name Boreal is derived from Greek mythology, inspired by Boreas, the god of the wind, as well as the Latin term for “north wind.”
According to Renault’s Naming Strategy Manager, Sylvia dos Santos, the name was carefully chosen to reflect the SUV’s attributes. She explained that Boreal evokes a sense of strength and an “enhanced design,” drawing comparisons to the magical aurora borealis, also known as the Northern Lights.
What Boreal Stands For?
Renault says the Boreal name captures the SUV’s main qualities:
- Advanced technology
- Comfort
- A touch of luxury
This new model is a part of Renault’s International Game Plan 2027, showing the brand’s ambition in global markets.
Furthermore, the Boreal is essentially a 7-seater version of the Renault Duster, which is also set to return to the Indian market. The Duster was once a popular SUV in India before being discontinued.
