Trump, 78, will succeed Joe Biden, 82, after he takes oath inside the US Capitol Rotunda. Departing from the convention where presidents-elect have taken oath on the Capitol steps, the inauguration ceremony of Donald Trump has been planned indoors as the weather forecast for Washington DC “could take temperatures into severe record lows,” Trump said announcing the change of venue.
According to the latest weather forecast, the temperature in Washington DC is likely to be around -11 degrees Celsius on Monday.
Trump will take the oath as the 47th President of the United States at 12 noon ET (10:30 pm IST) and the day will be marked by a formal swearing-in ceremony, musical performances, a celebratory parade, and several formal balls.
The official segment of the Inauguration started with a celebration and reception at Trump National Sterling, which included a large fireworks display on Saturday.
Strict security measures have been put in place with iron walls and fences erected across the length and breadth of the city. 30 miles of temporary fencing and about 25,000 security personnel have been deployed for the occasion, the officials said, reported PTI.
The event is a National Special Security Event (NSSE), a classification that brings federal and local partners together under the lead of the United States Secret Service.
All major venues linked with the inauguration have been blocked and cordoned off with authorities warning participants to walk, many times, even a mile to reach the venue.
Participants attending an event at any venue for the Inauguration will have to pass through multiple layers of security checks and have been asked not to bring any large bags or items with them.
The inauguration will be attended by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar business tycoon Mukesh Ambani and his wife Nita Ambani from India.
Chinese Vice President Han Zheng will attend the event on behalf of Xi Jinping, who was also invited. Argentina President Javier Milei, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, and Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya will also be in attendance.
Tech billionaires Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and Jeff Bezos along with Apple CEO Tim Cook and TikTok CEO Shou Chew have been invited to sit on the dais.
Besides, several athletes and musicians will also attend the ceremony.
