Saif Knife Attack Accused’s Father Says CCTV Footage Doesn’t Match Son’s Appearance

Md Ruhul Amin Fakir, father of Mohammed Shariful Islam, the arrested accused in the attack on actor Saif Ali Khan has said that the images of the suspect captured on CCTV footage does not match his son’s usual appearance.

He defended his son saying he has been wrongfully implicated in the incident.

The images from CCTV footage showing a suspect with long hair do not match his son’s usual appearance, Fakir said while speaking to IANS.

“From what is shown in the CCTV… my son never keeps his hair long. I believe my son is being framed,” he asserted denying any connection between his son’s typical appearance and the person seen in the CCTV footage.

Fakir also dismissed the media reports stating that the accused was a wrestler in the lower weight category in Bangladesh. According to his father, Sahriful was a bike rider like others in his village in Jholokathi.

“He used to work as a bike rider in Jholakathi,” Ruhul Amin said. “I was the one who bought him the bike. Many people ride bikes in our village. Shariful also used to ride a motorcycle like others,” according to the father.

“No, Shaiful had never wrestled, neither did he do wrestling nor did he like it,” the father claimed.

His family was linked to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and faced oppression under the Sheikh Hasina government, which only intensified after she was re-elected in January last year, Fakir said.

Later towards the end of March and beginning of April, Shariful left for India and got a job at a hotel in Mumbai. He would send money to his family every month, Fakir said.

On his son’s life in India, Fakir painted a picture of a man simply trying to make his living in a foreign country.

“The salary in Mumbai’s hotels is higher than in West Bengal. The hotels there are quite large, and the salary is also higher,” Fakir noted, suggesting that Shariful moved to Mumbai for better job prospects in the hospitality industry.
