While Samsung has yet to unveil its Galaxy S25 series, rumours about the Galaxy S26 lineup have already started making waves online. According to a recent report from South Korea, Samsung may be planning a significant display upgrade for the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
The company is reportedly working on incorporating Colour Filter on Encapsulation (CoE) technology into the screen, which could make the display thinner, brighter, and more efficient. Notably, Samsung has previously used CoE technology in select Galaxy Z Fold models.
Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra Display Rumours
A report from The Elec highlights that Samsung intends to utilise CoE technology on the Galaxy S26 Ultra to improve power efficiency and light transmittance. This technology eliminates the need for traditional polarizing plates in OLED displays, replacing them with a colour filter. Additionally, the usual Pixel Define Layer (PDL) is replaced with a black PDL.
By removing the polariser layer, the display panel can become thinner and achieve better light transmittance, reducing overall power consumption. The black PDL is expected to prevent internal light reflections, enhancing the screen’s brightness. Furthermore, the colour filter applied on a Thin-Film Encapsulation (TFE) will not only improve colour accuracy but also protect the OLED panel from moisture and oxygen, ensuring better durability and performance.
The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is rumoured to be the company’s first bar-style smartphone to incorporate advanced display technology. This innovation could allow Samsung to create thinner devices without sacrificing display quality. Previously, Samsung introduced the Colour Filter on Encapsulation (CoE) technology in its foldable Galaxy Z Fold lineup, starting with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 in 2021. Most recently, the Galaxy Z Fold 6, launched last year, also featured this cutting-edge display enhancement.
As for the rest of the Galaxy S26 series, reports suggest that the standard and Plus models might come equipped with Samsung’s in-house Exynos processors. In contrast, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon flagship chipset, emphasizing its premium positioning in the lineup.
