After making its mark at international film festivals, Sanya Malhotra and Nishant Dahiya’s film Mrs was recently released on Zee5. The film is receiving a positive response from viewers with many praising Sanya for bringing an effortless emotional depth to her character Richa. While several women resonate with her portrayal, Sanya herself admitted to seeing some aspects of Richa in her mother and other women around her.

In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, the Dangal actress noted that Mrs is not about one woman and that most of us have experienced or seen Richa in our lives. Therefore, she believed in the story and its significance. She said, “Definitely, I have seen some aspects of Richa in my mother, in my maasis, buas, maami, my friends. So, it’s not about one woman but women we have seen and come close and personal.”

During the same conversation, the actress also reflected on her Bollywood journey. She recalled having her father’s support to pursue acting, while her mother wasn’t so happy about this decision. “I think papa ka to immediately support mil gaya tha, to be honest, I was quite shocked kyuki mujhe nahi laga tha mere papa inti jaldi manenge, (I got immediate support from my father, so to be honest, I was quite shocked because I did not think that my father would agree so soon),” she added.

Sanya revealed that her mother was a little hesitant and wanted Sanya to focus on her studies. “Even when I came to Mumbai, she used to ask me to do some online courses, she believed that education shouldn’t stop,” she admitted.

Sanya Malhotra acknowledged being emotionally dependent on her family and friends, adding, “I want to be surrounded by my family and friends constantly because that is something which keeps me grounded, and talking to them, and spending quality time makes me really happy.”

For those who do not know, Mrs is the official Hindi remake of the Malayalam film, The Great Indian Kitchen. It follows Richa, a young woman who finds her voice muted within the confines of domesticity and patriarchy post-marriage, and her eventual breakthrough to find her path. The family drama has broken many records, achieving the biggest opening on ZEE5, and becoming the most searched Indian movie on Google.
