‘Scrap NDA Govt Like 15-Year-Old Vehicles’: Tejashwi Quips, Chirag Reminds Him Of RJD’s Rule

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in Bihar, comparing it to an old vehicle that needs to be replaced. He asserted that much like 15-year-old vehicles are banned in the state for spreading pollution, the two-decade-old government must also go.

“The 20-year-old NDA government in Bihar, headed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has now turned into a rickety vehicle. There is a ban on vehicles that are more than 15 years old across Bihar as they emit too much smoke, increase pollution, and are harmful to the public,” Yadav said in a post on X.

“Therefore, why should the 20-year-old rickety NDA government be allowed to operate in the state? This government has become a burden on the people of Bihar… it must be changed,” the Leader of the Opposition added.

Yadav further alleged that the Nitish Kumar-led government had spread the “deadly pollution of poverty, unemployment, corruption, crime, and migration” over the past 20 years. He accused the NDA of “manipulation and flip-flops” and said it had “ruined the lives of two generations” in Bihar.

“The youth of Bihar have resolved to remove this dilapidated, sick, and unreliable government, and bring a dispensation with new thinking, new vision, new zeal, and a new direction – that is reliable and dedicated to providing jobs, employment, and development,” he stated.

Nitish Kumar, who leads the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)], has switched political alliances multiple times in the past decade. He severed ties with the BJP in 2013, only to return in 2017 after briefly aligning with the RJD-led ‘Mahagathbandhan’. In 2022, he once again joined the Mahagathbandhan, but returned to the NDA last year.

Yadav’s remarks came on a day when the Bihar Chief Minister turned 74, with leaders across the political spectrum, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, extending their greetings.

“Hearty birthday wishes to the Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar ji. Under his leadership, the state has progressed on a new path of development. May God grant him a healthy and long life,” Modi posted on X.

Amit Shah also conveyed his greetings, stating, “Heartfelt birthday wishes to the Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar ji. Under your leadership, Bihar has become synonymous with public welfare and good governance under the NDA. I pray for your excellent health and long life.”

Tejashwi Yadav, despite his sharp criticism of the government, also extended birthday wishes to the Chief Minister.

Chirag Paswan Hits Back At Tejashwi Yadav With RJD Rule Reminder

Reacting to Yadav’s criticism, Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan hit back, reminding the RJD leader of his party’s 15-year rule in the 1990s.

“If he is talking about 15 years, then he should also remember those 15 years. When he had his 15 years in the 90s, what was the situation in Bihar during that time? This is the reality. These kinds of statements are not worth making,” Paswan said.

On Yadav’s claim that some BJP and JD(U) leaders were trying to prevent Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant Kumar from entering politics, Paswan dismissed it as baseless.

“If he has so much information, then he should sit with the Chief Minister and tell what is going on and what is not. There is no point in saying such baseless things. This decision has to be taken by a particular person – Nishant Kumar himself. If he chooses to enter politics, we will definitely welcome him. But it does not suit him (Tejashwi Yadav) to say such misleading things,” he stated, as per news agency ANI.

Paswan also expressed confidence in the NDA’s prospects in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.

“The NDA government will be formed in the 2025 assembly elections. We will contest the elections under the leadership of the Chief Minister (Nitish Kumar), and he will become the Chief Minister again,” he asserted.
