Shantanu Maheshwari, the actor and dancer who stole the hearts of every 90s girl with his charming looks in MTV’s Dil Dosti Dance, is reflecting on how the art form has shaped his career. As the world celebrates International Dance Day, Shantanu spoke highly about the role of dance in his life. Recalling that he grew up watching Boogie Woogie, Shantanu noted that the show set the tone for his passion for dance.
“My teacher taught me that one should be a versatile dancer and be able to grasp any dance form. Javed Jaffrey used to say the same thing on Boogie Woogie. That encouraged me to learn different styles of dancing. I am not very well-versed in ballet, but through YouTube, I managed to learn the basics just to understand the form better,” he told the Times of India. The Gangubai Kathiawadi actor mentioned how learning dance helped him lift his confidence in many ways, adding that it has also played a key role in his career.
“I have been able to connect with so many people because of it. It has boosted my confidence in ways I cannot even describe. It has also deepened my knowledge of music. As I grew older, it helped shape my personality overall. So, dance didn’t just shape my career; it shaped me,” he continued.
With Shantanu Maheshwari now focused on his acting career, he explained whether the switch has affected his passion for dance. “I have always been juggling between dancing and acting projects. After Gangubai Kathiawadi, there was a short period when people realised that I am not limited to dance-oriented roles. It opened more new avenues for me, and makers, too, saw that I had more to offer,” he said. The actor revealed how he has started picking more challenging projects and that he would be happier to work in dancing films.
On the work front, Shantanu Maheshwari was last seen in Campus Beats.
