The government is go ahead with various initiatives aimed at harmonious co-existence of forests, wildlife, and humanity, according to Minister of Forests and Wildlife A.K. Saseedaran.
The Minister was speaking after inaugurating the construction of a solar-powered hanging fence in Chalakudy on Thursday. The project, which is being implemented by the Forest and Wildlife department in collaboration with NABARD, involves the installation of a solar-powered hanging fences along Chalakudy River, stretching 18 k.m from Virippara to Kannan Kuzhi Thodu, passing through the Pariyaram and Athirappilly panchayats, at a cost of ₹2.24 crore.
Approximately 80 k.m. of solar-powered hanging fences will be installed across the Chalakudy-Vazhachal divisions. This will be the first time in Kerala that solar hanging fences are being set up over such a long distance.
The Minister also added that this time the government had prioritised projects aimed at ensuring water conservation inside the forests.
The inaugural ceremony of the project was held at the Arurmuzhi Community Hall, and it was presided over by Chalakudy MLA Sanish Kumar Joseph.
