Soldier Goes Missing After Leaving Home To Resume Duty In J&K’s Rangreth


A soldier returning to duty from home after holidays has gone missing in Jammu and Kashmir. Rifleman Abid Bhat had left his home in Anantnag district’s Chittergul to report to duty at Rangreth on Saturday, but did not do so till this morning, officials told news agency PTI.  

A missing persons complaint was lodged with the police after the soldier did not report at the camp till this morning. Further details were awaited.

Another similar incident took place last year in October when a soldier went missing in the union territory. Rifleman Hilal Ahmad Bhat was one of the two soldiers who were allegedly kidnapped by terrorists during search operations in the Anantnag’s forest area.

A massive search operations was launched at the time to trace the jawans.

Indian Army’s Chinar Corps had confirmed that he had gone missing and that a joint-terrorist operation was launched along with Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security agencies in the Kazwan Forest on October 8 to find the soldier of the Territorial Army.

Bhat’s body was later found in the Kazwan forest area in Kokernag, while the other soldier had managed to escape. 

“Chinar Corps honours the supreme sacrifice of the brave heart, Rifleman Hilal Ahmad Bhat, in line of duty for the nation. His courage and dedication will forever inspire us. Indian Army expresses deepest condolences and stands in solidarity with the bereaved family,” the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps of the Army said on X.

2 LeT Terrorists Killed In J&K’s Poonch

Meanwhile, in another development, the Indian Army foiled an infiltration bid along the LoC in J&K’s Poonch district. Two heavily armed terrorists, reportedly affiliated with the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), were killed in a gunfight as Army tried to foil the infiltration bid.

The incident took place on January 30 in the Khari Karmara area of Poonch after terrorist movement was detected at the Line of Control in the Poonch sector. 

Army’s Jammu-based White Knight Corps said that alert troops swiftly engaged the infiltrating terrorists, triggering an intense and heavy firefight. The operation lasted overnight, leading to the neutralisation of two terrorists. During the search of the area, a number of weapons and war-like stores were also recovered.
