Sonia Gandhi Admitted To Shimla Hospital For Check-Up After High Blood Pressure


Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Indira Gandhi Medical College & Hospital in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh on Saturday after she complained of restlessness due to high blood pressure.

According to Naresh Chauhan, Principal Advisor (Media) to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, she was brought in for a routine health check-up due to some minor health issues.

Gandhi, 78, who is in Shimla on a private visit to Shimla, is staying at the family’s private residence in Chharabra. She is expected to return to Delhi on June 7.

“Sonia Gandhi was taken to the hospital after she complained of high blood pressure. It was a routine checkup and she is going back home now,” Naresh Chauhan said.

Some tests were conducted at the hospital by the doctors, officials told PTI.

The report also said that she was accompanied by her daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who had also arrived to Shimla along with her mother for the trip. The IGMC management has not issued any official statement regarding Sonia Gandhi’s health. 

In February, Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi due to stomach-related issues.

“She was admitted today for some abdomen-related issue. However, there is no major concern and in all likelihood she will be discharged by tomorrow morning,” Dr Ajay Swaroop, chairman- Board of Management, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, had said.

She made her last public appearance on May 27, when she paid floral tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru on his 61st death anniversary, at his memorial Shanti Van in Delhi.

Recently, the Enforcement Directorate named Sonia Gandhi as prime accused and her son and Leader of Oppositon in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi as accused no. two in the National Herald case. Apart from them, five others were also named by the central agency in the prosecution complaint filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
