An all-party meeting convened by the ruling DMK began on Wednesday evening to chart the next course of action after the Centre declined to grant assent to Tamil Nadu’s NEET exemption Bill. The meeting, held at the Secretariat, saw the participation of floor leaders from several political parties, except the AIADMK and BJP, both of which skipped the session despite AIADMK’s earlier support for the Bill.
Stalin’s All-Party Meet On NEET
Chief Minister MK Stalin, addressing the gathering, reiterated the DMK government’s firm stance against the NEET exam, which he said disproportionately affects students from economically weaker backgrounds. Stalin noted that while the Union Government had rejected the proposal, his government remained committed to pursuing legal avenues to secure NEET exemption for the state.
Stalin said, as per ANI, “NEET entrance exams affect the students who are living in poverty. We sent the proposal to the Tamil Nadu Governor, he must have sent it to the President, but he did politics over it. We fought over it. We passed the resolution in State Assembly and sent it again to Governor for President’s assent. I met Governor in person and gave the request. Union Government might have rejected our Bill but I believe if we continue to take legal measures, we will get NEET exemption for Tamil Nadu.”
