The Tamil Nadu government has launched a prize scheme to encourage passengers to use public buses. The DMK-led government will offer prizes such as two-wheelers and televisions through a lucky draw. The scheme applies to those who book tickets online for state transport corporation buses, including MTC buses operating within Chennai city and SETC buses providing inter-state services.
Three winners will be chosen from passenger list who book tickets for travel between November 21 and January 20. According to reports, the first prize is a two-wheeler, the second prize is a smart TV, and the third prize is a refrigerator. In addition, monthly cash prizes will also be awarded.
The monthly prize scheme has been operational since last June and on the occasion of Pongal, the government is announcing new prizes. Each month, 13 winners are selected and top three of them receive Rs 10,000 each, while the remaining winners are awarded Rs 2,000 each.
Despite lower fares compared to private buses, many people are reluctant to use government buses due to misconceptions about service quality. The SETC has introduced this prize scheme to encourage people to try government buses and change their perception.
