Tata launched the updated Altroz last Thursday, intensifying the competition in the premium hatchback segment and positioning it directly against the segment leader, Maruti Suzuki Baleno. But how does the new Tata Altroz compare with the Baleno in terms of design, features, safety, specifications, and most importantly, price? Here’s a closer look.
Stylish and Sporty Appeal
The Tata Altroz has always been known for its sporty design, and the 2025 update gives it an even more premium appearance. It now features a redesigned grille, sleeker headlights, new tail-lamps, and other styling updates while maintaining its signature silhouette.
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno, already a best-seller, recently received an update of its own. With its balanced blend of sportiness, sophistication, and everyday practicality, the Baleno continues to appeal to a wide range of buyers.
Feature-Packed Interiors
The new Altroz boasts several segment-first features, including a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch TFT digital instrument cluster. It also gets flush door handles, a sunroof, 16-inch alloy wheels, wireless charging, and cruise control.
In comparison, the Baleno offers 16-inch alloy wheels, projector headlights, a head-up display, cruise control, a 9-inch infotainment screen, and wireless smartphone connectivity. However, it misses out on a sunroof and the fully digital instrument console that the Altroz offers.
Safety First
When it comes to safety, the updated Altroz now comes with six airbags as standard across all variants. Higher trims also offer a 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitor, rear-view camera, automatic wipers, and headlights.
The Baleno comes with two airbags as standard, with six airbags offered on top variants. It also features ABS, electronic stability control (ESC), hill-hold assist, and ISOFIX child seat anchors – all of which are also present in the Altroz.
Engine Options
The Altroz stands out as the only car in this segment, featuring a diesel engine. It also comes with petrol and CNG options, paired with manual, AMT, or DCT gearboxes. On the other hand, the Baleno is offered with a petrol engine and a CNG variant only with a choice between manual and AMT gearboxes.
