Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM), part of Tata Motors, is leading India’s electric vehicle (EV) revolution by partnering with the Rajasthan Solar Association (RSA).

They have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote electric vehicles and encourage the use of solar energy for charging them in Rajasthan.

The Indian government’s Prime Minister Surya Ghar Yojana is boosting solar rooftop installations, helping the country achieve over 400,000 setups, and that number keeps growing. Combining solar power with electric vehicles means customers can drive without worrying about fuel costs and emissions.

Rajasthan is particularly well-suited for this, ranking second in India for renewable energy capacity, with 20% of its power coming from renewable sources. Jaipur, the state’s capital, has one of the highest rates of EV adoption in the country.

This partnership between TPEM and RSA aims to enhance solar energy use and electric mobility in Rajasthan, supporting carbon reduction goals and promoting sustainability. Customers with solar power systems at home or work will receive additional discounts on Tata EV purchases. RSA will handle the certification process to ensure eligible customers can access these discounts and will promote TPEM’s electric vehicle offerings throughout the state.

Mr. Balaje Rajan, Chief Strategy Officer at TPEM, highlighted, “Rooftop solar gives EV owners a fantastic chance for low-cost power and zero-emission driving. Over 90 percent of EV owners charge at home, and nearly 30 percent already use rooftop solar. By working together, EV users can cut fuel costs and achieve true zero-cost mobility. This MoU with RSA is a key step in making zero-emission mobility accessible to all.”

Mr. Nitin Agarwal, CEO of the Rajasthan Solar Association, added, “This collaboration will mark a revolutionary step in Rajasthan’s electric vehicle consumption as it combines solar power with EVs, representing a significant step in fostering green energy and reducing reliance on traditional fuels, marking a major milestone in Rajasthan’s journey towards a sustainable future.”
