Most parts of Thane’s Ghodbunder Road have been repaired, but some sections still need finishing touches before the monsoon. Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) Commissioner Saurabh Rao visited the area this week to review progress. After the inspection, he set a new deadline, directing all departments to complete the remaining work by May 30.

According to a Mid-Day report, Rao had previously visited the site on April 24 and instructed officials to finish the work by May 20. However, during his latest visit on Thursday, officials informed him that while most repairs were complete, a few sections remained unfinished. In response, the deadline was extended by ten days. The road repair is being carried out using Cement Grouted Penetration Macadam (CGPM) and Cement Base (CB) methods.

To manage traffic during the repair work, the Thane traffic police had already issued a notification. In the notice, police said that heavy vehicles would not be allowed on certain parts of Ghodbunder Road while work is going on. They also gave alternate routes for such vehicles.

During the inspection, Rao visited several key locations. These included the Eastern Express Highway, Kapurbawdi Junction, service road, Ghodbunder Road and Gaymukh Ghat. He checked the completed work and also looked at the ongoing repairs in each area. Along with him, senior officials from different departments like Public Works, Metro, MMRDA and the electricity department were also present.

He also instructed that wherever roadwork is going on, even after the monsoon begins, proper signs should be put up for the commuters to avoid any traffic problems.

Cleaning of drainage lines and culverts is also in progress to make sure there is no waterlogging during the rains. Old drainage lines are being connected to newly built lines. Rao inspected the flyover and instructed the officials that the cleaning work must also be completed by May 30.

One of the major projects that will help reduce traffic in the area is the Kasarvadavali flyover. This flyover is almost complete. Rao asked the MMRDA team to complete the remaining work on the flyover by June 5. The flyover is expected to make traffic smoother on Ghodbunder Road, officials said.
