The beloved television show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has been running for more than 17 years now. Premiered on July 28, 2008, it is one of the longest-running sitcoms in the television world. Over the years, the show continues to captivate viewers with the introduction of new faces, engaging storylines and light-hearted comedy. While the show has most actors who are Gujarati, Nitish Bhaluni, who plays the iconic character Tapu, shares how he has also turned into a Gujarati within a year of joining the show.
Well now, the actor recently spoke about the changes he saw in himself while strolling with his friends. In the vlog shared on Instagram, Nitish can be heard speaking in Gujarati. He said, “Sambhdo, hu Gujarati nathi pan have hu Gujarati bani gayo chu (Listen, I am not Gujarati, but now I have become Gujarati).”
“Everybody on my show is Gujarati, so by staying with them, I have turned into a Gujju, and I started speaking the language fluently by speaking to them every day. By playing Tapu every day, I have turned into a pakko Gujarati manas. And I am enjoying it,” he expressed.
As soon as the clip gained traction online, fans were in awe of their favourite character’s Gujarati side. “Hu pan gujju che, and we are fans of yours,” a fan wrote. Another hailed, “Your gujju accent is damn good.” “Gujarati sara kevay (You are speaking good Gujarati),” someone added. An individual also stated, “Waah waah… Bahut saras.”
The character of Tapu was originally played by Bhavya Gandhi since its inception. But his stint with the show ended in 2017 when he decided to leave for future opportunities. Raj Anadkat then took over his role for a brief period and left the show in 2022 amid rumours of unpaid dues and conflict with the production. It was in 2023 when Nitish Bhaluni was introduced as the new Tapu.
It is to be noted that this is not the only character that has seen changes. Taarak Mehta (Shailesh Lodha), Roshan Singh Sodhi (Gurucharan Singh), Anjali Mehta (Neha Mehta), Roshan Sodhi (Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal), Sonu Bhide (Nidhi Bhanushali), and Daya Gada (Disha Vakani), among others, have also exited the show, allowing new faces to replace their parts.
Talking about the latest track in the show, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has once again become the fan favourite, securing the second spot on the TRP list. The show recently showed the wedding track of Tapu. These episodes added a lot of twists that left the viewers on the edge of their seats. However, the track ended with a social message, leaving the fans with a lesson.
