Train services on the Western Railway’s suburban network were severely disrupted on Thursday evening following the snapping of Overhead Equipment (OHE) near Palghar station, 100 km from Mumbai.
The OHE on the Churchgate-bound UP line was restored by 10.35 pm, more than three and a half hours after the snapping, while efforts were on to restore the OHE on Dahanu-bound DOWN line, the Western Railway (WR) said late at night.
The incident occurred around 6.55 pm, leading to major delays and cancellations on the Vasai Road-Dahanu Road section, officials said.
Hundreds of passengers were stuck at various suburban stations.
The WR cancelled seven suburban locals, most of them Dahanu-bound.
The Central Railway said at least nine trains were halted at various stations due to the OHE problem on the Western Railway besides eight goods trains.
According to railway sources, short circuit could be the reason for the OHE snapping.
