Our favourite robots are back in action! The new trailer of the highly-anticipated animated film Transformers One has been dropped and it promises an all-new origin story for everyone’s shape-shifting heroes. Transformers One is the first-ever fully animated Transformers film directed by Josh Cooley. The film features a star-studded voice cast including Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne and Jon Hamm.
The new trailer for Transformers One, the first-ever fully CG-animated Transformers movie, offers a gripping look at the origins of the legendary conflict between the Autobots and Decepticons. The trailer transports us to a time before the fall of Cybertron, the Transformers’ home world, revealing the journey of Orion Pax and D-16 – characters who are famously known as the iconic Optimus Prime and Megatron. It shows how Orion Pax (voiced by Hemsworth) and D-16 (voiced by Henry) were close friends, long before their destinies as enemies were sealed. The transformation of these friends into arch-enemies eventually led to the splitting of the planet into two factions: the Decepticons and the Autobots. The trailer opens with a powerful voiceover by Hemsworth, stating, “For thousands of years, we have been at war. But before we were enemies, we were like brothers,” setting the stage for the emotional journey ahead.
The trailer of the film was shared by Hemsworth on his Instagram handle along with the caption, “Check out the latest trailer for #TransformersOne – in theatres September 20! Transformers.”

In an interview with Screen Rant, Cooley explained that even those unfamiliar with the world of Transformers can watch Transformers One and be “totally invested.” Talking about Optimus Prime and Megatron’s relationship, Cooley said, “You see these two characters and go, “Yeah, they’re great together.” Orion and D-16 before they become Optimus and Megatron? They’re awesome. You want to see them together, you want to love them together, so that when the relationship starts to fall apart, it’s a tragedy. At the end of it, you’re just like, ‘Oh, man, it sucks that they’re going to become enemies.’ Regardless of all the different tellings of the origin, the most important thing was that relationship.”
Transformers One is the eighth installment in the Transformers film series and serves as a prequel to the 2007 Transformers film. It is the franchise’s first theatrical animated feature film since 1986’s The Transformers: The Movie.
