Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the Gorakhpur Link Expressway on June 20. This marks a major step in boosting road connectivity across the state. The expressway connects Jaitpur, located near National Highway-27 in Gorakhpur, to Salarpur in Azamgarh, where it links directly with the Purvanchal Expressway.
Along its route, it passes through four districts: Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, and Azamgarh. The new road is a four-lane, access-controlled expressway, with provisions in place to expand it to six lanes in the future.
Gorakhpur Link Expressway: Know All About It
The Gorakhpur Link Expressway project, including land costs, is estimated at Rs 7,283.28 crore, as reported by the Economic Times.
The construction was carried out in two parts — the stretch from Jaitpur to Phulwaria (about 48.3 km) was built by APCO Infratech Private Ltd, while the section from Phulwaria to Salarpur (around 43 km) was handled by Dilip Buildcon Limited.
According to reports, the new expressway will cut down travel time from Gorakhpur city to its southern areas like Urwa, Dhuriyapar, Khajni, and Belghat. It will significantly cut travel time from Gorakhpur to Urwa, reducing the journey from about an hour to just 20–25 minutes.
It also offers a faster and more convenient route from Gorakhpur to Lucknow.
By connecting directly to the Purvanchal Expressway, the route ensures smoother long-distance travel. It reportedly enhances connectivity to major cities like Lucknow, Delhi, and Agra, allowing for quicker and more comfortable journeys.
