US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are discussing the 30-day ceasefire proposal in Ukraine over a telephone call on Tuesday, the White House said.
The two world leaders have begun a highly anticipated call as the US administration is looking to persuade the Russian leader to sign-off on the ceasefire proposal to end the war in Ukraine.
The call between the two leaders comes after Ukrainian officials last week agreed to the US proposal during talks in Saudi Arabia led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, however, remains skeptical that Putin is ready for peace as the Russian forces continue to attack Ukrainian territories.
Zelenskyy is heading to Finland where he will meet Finnish President Alexander Stubb on Wednesday. Finland’s Defense Ministry announced last week that it would give a new military aid package to Ukraine worth 200 million Euros.
