US President Donald Trump spoke to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Friday and urged the Russian President “to spare” Ukrainian troops.
Taking to his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said he had “very good and productive discussions” with Putin. “There is a very good chance that this horrible, bloody war can finally come to an end,” he said.
He then caveated to say that thousands of Ukrainian troops are “completely surrounded” by the Russian military, adding that he urged Putin to spare them.
“BUT, AT THIS VERY MOMENT, THOUSANDS OF UKRAINIAN TROOPS ARE COMPLETELY SURROUNDED BY THE RUSSIAN MILITARY, AND IN A VERY BAD AND VULNERABLE POSITION. I have strongly requested to President Putin that their lives be spared,” said the US President.
“This would be a horrible massacre, one not seen since World War II. God bless them all!!!” he added.

Putin Says ‘In Favour’ Of Ceasefire Proposal
On Thursday, Putin said he was “in favour” of the ceasefire with Ukraine proposed by the US. He, however, said there are “nuances” and that the truce must lead to “long -term peace.”
He made the remarks during a press conference where he specifically asked about the ceasefire to which he responded by thanking Trump for dedicating his attention to the issue.
“We agree with the proposal for a ceasefire to cease hostilities, but we proceed from the fact that this ceasefire should lead to an enduring peace and should remove the root causes of this crisis,” he said.

The Russian President, although, raised more questions that entirely agree with the ceasefire.
He claimed that the ceasefire could give Ukraine a chance to rearm and regain momentum.
Putin said “the idea is good” and “we absolutely support it”, but he also said there were issues that need to be discussed.
” I think we need to negotiate with our American colleagues and partners, maybe a phone call with President Trump, but the very idea of ending this conflict by peaceful means we support that,” the Russian President remarked.
