According to a report by CNN, the Senate confirmed former Democratic-Republican Tulsi Gabbard with a 52-48 vote. Notably, former Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell sided with Democrats in opposing her confirmation. She became Trump’s 14th nominee to be confirmed since January 20.
Her appointment was one of the most contentious, with several Republican senators raising concerns over her stance on Ukraine, her evolving position on FISA Section 702—a crucial surveillance and security measure—her 2017 meeting with former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, and her previous support for Edward Snowden.
