To help meet their target of onboarding 50,000 e-rickshaw drivers, Urja Mobility will educate users on the advantages of Lithium-Ion batteries.

The flexible leasing plan offers monthly payments over 12 to 24 months

Urja Mobility, a leading electric vehicle (EV) solutions provider, has launched a new battery leasing programme aimed at e-rickshaw drivers in ten key cities.

This initiative tackles the financial challenges of owning an EV battery by turning high upfront costs into affordable monthly payments.

The programme features a “Smart Opex Model”, giving drivers access to advanced Lithium-Ion batteries that last longer, require less maintenance, and offer better thermal performance than traditional Lead Acid batteries.

The first cities to benefit from the programme include Agra, Lucknow, Ayodhya, Varanasi, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Siliguri, Guwahati, Bhubaneswar, and Puri. These cities were chosen due to their high EV adoption and heavy tourist traffic, helping drivers make the most of their vehicles.

The flexible leasing plan allows drivers to pay for the battery over 12 to 24 months, with ownership transferred at the end of the term, offering a reliable energy solution for over five years.

Service centres will be set up in each city to support drivers with installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, ensuring that e-rickshaws stay operational for at least 26 days a month.

The smart Lithium-Ion batteries will also come equipped with a Battery Management System, which uses AI and data analytics to monitor battery health and predict potential issues.

Pankaj Chopra, Founder and CEO of Urja Mobility, said, “This initiative represents a significant step forward in making electric mobility accessible and affordable for e-rickshaw drivers. By providing a cost-effective, reliable, and sustainable battery solution, we aim to empower drivers and contribute to India’s vision for a greener future.”

Urja Mobility aims to sign up 50,000 e-rickshaw drivers as part of the programme. With over 75 percent of the market still relying on Lead Acid batteries, the company is promoting the long-term economic and environmental benefits of upgrading to Lithium-Ion technology.

Drivers will also have access to digital tools for real-time insights into battery performance and leasing details, making it easier to manage.
