Vinesh Phogat announced her retirement from wrestling on Thursday, following her disqualification from the 50kg category finals at the Paris Olympics 2024 for being 100 grams overweight during the weigh-in. Vinesh made history by becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to reach the gold medal bout in her category, securing at least a silver medal before her disqualification.
In an emotional post on X, Vinesh expressed her disappointment: “Mother, wrestling defeated me. I lost. Forgive me. Your dream, my courage, everything is shattered. I don’t have any strength left now. Goodbye wrestling 2001-2024.” This marks the end of her illustrious career, which spanned over two decades.
