Virat Kohli blasts broadcasters for discussing personal life over cricket, says ‘…not what I ate yesterday for lunch’

Virat Kohli minced no words against the broadcasters for discussing his personal life over cricket. Besides cricket, Virat Kohli has been the biggest sporting brand globally, thanks to his game and the personality the 36-year-old possess. As a result, the former India captain has always been the hot favourite product to market for the broadcasters.

Speaking at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit on Saturday, Virat Kohli opined that the broadcasters need to highlight the stories about the athletes rather than discussing about what he ate for lunch or his favourite food joint in Delhi.

“A broadcast show needs to talk about the game and not what I ate yesterday for lunch or my favourite chole-bhature place in Delhi,” Virat Kohli said in a conversation with former England women international Isa Guha. “You can’t have that in cricket matches. Rather, you could talk about what an athlete is going through.”

Virat Kohli’s comments refereed to several special shows by the broadcasters during an IPL season where his current diet, dietary preferences, etc were discussed.

What’s next for Virat Kohli?

Fresh after winning the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai, beating New Zealand in the final, Virat Kohli has joined the RCB camp for the upcoming season of IPL. Runners-up three times in IPL, RCB are yet to start their first training session officially.

The former skipper has been the pillar for RCB for all the 17 seasons and will once again be the same in IPL 2025. With a new captain in Rajat Patidar and several new faces in the squad, RCB embark on a new chapter with an aim to pocket their first-ever IPL title on May 25.

RCB open their campaign against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 22 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
