The Swedish carmaker Volvo, which has been witnessing an overwhelming response in India, has shortened its fleet in the country. The brand has discontinued its tech-loaded S90. It has removed the model from the official website as well.
According to the reports, the decision has been taken by the brand due to low sales. The company is also accelerating its pivot to electrification, aligning with corporate goals to phase out combustion sedans and focus on SUVs and EVs.
Other Reason
The reports also suggested that the discontinuation of the model came after witnessing high Chinese-import tariffs impacted the S90 (manufactured in China), making it less competitive in key markets like North America.
Price Range
The vehicle was launched in the country at the starting price of Rs 68 lakh (ex-showroom). The S90 was considered as brand’s flagship sedan, which used to compete against BMW 5 Series, Mercedes E-Class, and Audi A6.
In case you are wondering about the replacement of the Volvo S90. The company is gearing up to debut it as the electric successor named ES90. It is all set to replace the petrol-powered executive sedan entirely.
