In a late-night incident on SRM Road, a young man was dragged nearly 500 metres on the bonnet of a speeding car after being struck by an allegedly intoxicated driver. The dramatic event, which was recorded on CCTV, has sparked concerns about road safety and reckless driving in the city.
According to witnesses, the trouble started when a car pulled up near three young men standing close to a mosque, as per a report on The Hindu. A confrontation ensued after one of them reportedly noticed a knife in the possession of the vehicle’s occupants. As tensions escalated, bystanders intervened, prompting two of the individuals in the car to hastily drive away.
In the chaos, the vehicle allegedly hit one of the youths, who was thrown onto the bonnet. Instead of stopping, the driver accelerated, forcing the victim to cling onto the front of the car as it sped through the street, reported India Today. The ordeal ended when the driver slammed the brakes, sending the victim crashing onto the road. He sustained a shoulder dislocation and other injuries. However, now he is reported to be in stable condition.
Meanwhile, the CCTV footage collected from the nearby places showed the sequence of events, including two suspects fleeing the scene. The third individual, who was unable to escape with them, has been taken into police custody. The incident reportedly took place on Thursday night but the video started to circulate from Friday, as per the reports.
The police officials have since launched a manhunt for the two absconding suspects and are working to track down the vehicle involved in the incident. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities have assured the public that strict action will be taken against those responsible.
