“India is honoured to welcome President Prabowo Subianto. We discussed various aspects of the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,” the prime minister said in a post on X on Saturday.
“We discussed ways to deepen India-Indonesia relations in areas such as security, defence manufacturing, trade, FinTech, AI and more. Sectors like food security, energy and disaster management are also areas where we look forward to working closely. India and Indonesia are closely cooperating in various multilateral platforms as well. Indonesia is at the core of our Act East Policy and we welcome Indonesia’s BRICS membership,” PM Modi added.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian President, while speaking at the banquet hosted by President Droupadi Murmu, said that Indonesia has deep civilisational links with India and many Indonesian names come from Sanskrit. He also asserted that he has Indian DNA and added that he starts dancing whenever he hears Indian music.
Subianto’s presence at the grand parade came 75 years after Indonesia’s first president, Sukarno, attended the first Republic Day celebrations in 1950 as the chief guest. Subianto, a former defence minister, is the fourth Indonesian president to attend India’s Republic Day celebrations.
