Tamilisai Soundararajan Detained During Campaign For Modi Govt’s 3-Language Policy – Video

Senior BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan was detained by Greater Chennai Police while leading a signature campaign in MGR Nagar advocating the implementation of the three-language policy under the National Education Policy (NEP) on Thursday. The situation escalated following a verbal confrontation between BJP supporters and the police.

The BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit, led by state president K Annamalai and other senior leaders, initiated the campaign as part of a broader effort to push for the policy’s acceptance. The drive has seen active participation from district and mandal-level leaders.

‘Stalin Reveals Himself As Outdated CM’: Tamilisai

Speaking at the event, Tamilisai Soundararajan questioned the state government’s opposition to the three-language system, arguing that an additional language could enhance students’ career prospects. She asserted, as per IANS, “Why are students in government institutions being denied the opportunity to learn another language that could enhance their career prospects? Private institutions are already following the three-language policy, but the government is enforcing a two-language system in public schools.”

The BJP leader also stressed the need for uniform implementation of the NEP across different education boards to ensure equal learning opportunities for all students.

Ahead of the campaign, Tamilisai told PTI, “He (Stalin) reveals himself as outdated CM and not aware of how the world is moving so fast and how children are facing challenges and what’s the widened horizon… Now, nobody is imposing Hindi. We are not ‘imposing’. We are condemning it. He is disturbed about the signature campaign which started yesterday. He is afraid of it. The third language is not only for opportunity but also for communication.”

TN Govt’s Oppn To 3-Language Formula

The ruling DMK, under Chief Minister MK Stalin, has consistently opposed the NEP, particularly its three-language formula, arguing that it is an attempt to impose Hindi in Tamil Nadu.

CM Stalin, in a letter to party members, reiterated his concerns, stating that Hindi serves as a tool to promote Sanskrit, sidelining other regional languages. He further cited examples of North Indian languages such as Maithili, Brajbhasha, Bundelkhandi, and Awadhi declining due to the dominance of Hindi.
